The Metronome Online metronome app can be used to get several advanced functionalities that you can incorporate into your practice. The tips will consist of subdivisions, beat patterns, and various time signatures.
Top 5 Advanced Metronome Tips
#1 “Set” the metronome to the offbeat
The exercise will help you pay attention to how we perceive the metronome pulse. You can hear it marking the offbeats. You can hear accenting beats 2 and 4 (as opposed to beats 1 and 3) at the faster tempos. You must set the metronome to a comfortable speed and then play an exercise. You can begin on the “empty space” and aligning your second eighth note with the metronome.

#2 Set the beat pattern to eliminate certain beats
You can set a beat pattern of up to 16 beats with the help of our metronome. When you have planned to play in 4/4, set the metronome to 16 beats and then vary the number of beats played within each 4-beat group. Let’s understand with a simple example – the first group has all 4 beats on, the second group beats 1, 2, and 3 (with beat 4 off), the third group beats 1 and 2 only, and the fourth group only beats 1 and 4.
#3 Polyrhythms
Now, you must put your instrument down to begin this exercise. Next, you will set the metronome to a slow tempo and practice playing different rhythms simultaneously with the help of your hands or your hands and voice.
#4 Playing the offbeats
offbeats – sixteenth notes at slower tempos or eighth notes at faster tempos. For example, when we listen to Afro-Latin music, we will see that the offbeats or syncopations are inherent in the music.
You must set the metronome to a comfortable speed to begin practicing this exercise. Start with a syncopated sixteenth note phrase (e.g., x-x-0-x x-x-0-x). You will feel comfortable repeating this pattern.
#5 Rhythmic Displacement
You will choose a challenging rhythmic pattern, such as a syncopated phrase. And, now you need to set the metronome to a moderate tempo and play the phrase. After that, displace the pattern by delaying the starting point; as a result, the strong beats fall between the metronome clicks. By practicing the exercise, you can improve your sense of time and train your rhythmic flexibility.
