Modern pianos consist of two basic configurations, the grand piano and the upright piano, each has its various styles. There are also specialized and novelty pianos, electric pianos based on electromechanical designs, and electronic pianos.
Grand Piano
Grand pianos are from approximately 1.5–3 m (4 ft 11 in – 9 ft 10 in) in length.
- Baby grand – around 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in)
- Parlor grand or boudoir grand – 1.7–2.2 m (5 ft 7 in – 7 ft 3 in)
- Concert grand – between 2.2–3 m (7 ft 3 in – 9 ft 10 in)
Upright Piano
Upright pianos, are also known as vertical pianos. These are more compact with a vertical structure of the frame and strings.
